The Royal University Hospital Foundation’s Annual Gala this year was selected to have circus theme. The client confirmed that they would like the ‘Classic’ circus theme reminiscent of the Barnum & Bailey’s era of circus entertainment. After viewing vintage posters from the time period, it was decided that we would do a hand lettered/illustrated look for all of the materials. The challenges were maintaining the vintage esthetic, while keeping it modern and whimsical, without being too child-like. The finished design is light-hearted and fun while still alluding to the time period in style of lettering, illustration, and overall format.
